Description: The AKC Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to recognize dogs who display good manners at home and in the community. CGC certification is recognized as a high standard of dog behavior and is an excellent way to prepare for therapy dog training. The program also provides an excellent foundation for training in other fun activities such as rally, service, showing, and agility, and results in a well-mannered dog who is a joy to live with.
PenDOG's CGC course teaches the skills and behaviors required of your dog to pass the CGC test administered at the end. Upon passing, dogs receive an official certificate from the American Kennel Club.
The test will include the following material and more: Heeling through obstacles and people, properly greeting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for grooming, sit and remain in place for 3 minutes, come when called from a distance, heel on a slack leash with distractions.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring your dog (of course!), shot records, soft chewy treats in a side pouch or front pouch (hoodie type sweaters work AWESOME!), 6ft leash (non-retractable), flat-buckle, slip, prong or martingale collars only, (harnesses are not recommended) and a slicker or soft brush.
